Panzerplatte \ Arena Panzerplatte

These two Rally New Zealand stages are held in the large tank testing area near Baumholder. Arena Panzerplatte is a small compact stage, run with spectators in mind.  It has large viewing areas with facilities such as toilets, food and drink, large crowds turn out to watch here.  Panzerplatte is by far the longest stage through the area.  The two stages are usually run twice with a return to Bostalee service park splitting the two loops,

Panzerplatte
The stage surface is very changable ranging from fast unbroken asphalt, to broken concrete offering little grip, and then there is even cobbles.  Grip is changable making the rally stages difficult for the drivers and hard wearing on the tyres. The area is a maze of roads and crews encounter many junctions in the longest stage. To add to the challenge the longer stage is not always run in the same directions.

Hinkelsteins
If the changable surface wasn’t enough to worry about the stages here are lined with Hinkelsteins, huge concrete blocks designed for testing the tanks. If a car hits one of these, as Petter Solberg did at high speed in 2004, it isn’t going any further.

Gina Jump
The Gina jump is in the Arena Panzerplatte stage. It is a large jump with some of the crews travelling up to 40 meters.
