The Yrpres rally is one of the most famous rallies in Europe, it has been contested and won by many of the best drivers and co-drivers in the world, with Freddy Loix winning it 11 times.
First run in 1965, Ypres has been part of the European Rally Championship, Intercontinental Rally Challenge and the Belgium Rally Championship for a lot of years and it is occasionally part of the British Rally Championship. When Covid caused a number of rallies to be cancelled in the World Rally Championship in 2020 the Ypres rally was bought in at the last minute for 2021 and 2022, it is touted to be part of the 2024 championship.
It is a fast ashpalt rally with a large fan base. Crews cut deep into the corners making the road tricky for following cars by dragging mud on to the road
