First run as part of the ERC back in 2013, the 2022 edition switches to a Friday-Sunday format and also forms rounds of the Azorean and Portuguese championships.
It has been a round of the Portugal national rally championship since the 1970s despite its remote location from Portugal and became an international rally in 1992 when it first became a round of the European Rally Championship.
Unfortunately the rally has been dropped from the 2023 Eurpean Rally Championship calendar. Despite the organisers negotiating free travel to the island some of the teams still felt that the overall time spent on the rally was too long and the organisers wanting to make the rally more centralised.
