Rally Mexico, formerly Rally America, is back for 2023 after a 2 year absence from the WRC calendar. It is the opening gravel round of the season, preceded by the asphalt of Rally Monte Carlo and the snow of Rally Sweden.
Sebastian Ogier made his JWRC debut for Citroen here back in 2008 in a C2 S1600. The star has included this in his part time 2023 schedule. Sebastian Loeb and Ogier are by far the most successful drivers at Rally Mexico, each winning a total 6 times. Sebastian Loeb had 6 consecutive wins between 2006 and 2012 (the rally being absent in 2009 due to rotation). A win in 2023 will put Ogier with the most Rally Mexico victories.
The stages that makeup Rally Mexico 2023 are compact, with all of them being based around the cities of León, Silao, and Guanajuato, the headquarters and service park is León. The compact nature means it has a high ratio of stage to liason miles, the 2007 rally was the shortest in WRC history with a total distance of less than 850km. It still included more than 366km of stages and more than 43 per cent was competitive.
The Rally Mexico route has the highest stages in the championship, reaching over 2700 meters in altitude. The lack of air pressure at this height causes the power of the cars to drop by around 20%, making errors costly due to the longer time it takes to regain speed.
Tickets & Access
Most of the stages of Rally Mexico are free to access, however, there is a Rally Pass package, which gives access to the Grandstands in the Las Dunas Superspecial, Callejera Distrito Leon, Ceremonial start and finish in Guanajuato (with priority access), Callejera Distrito Leon and various spectator areas with shade and WC. A second level, ‘Rally Pass All Inclusive’, also provides access to the bus, providing transport to the various spectator areas from the Service park.
The passes increase in price the closer to the event.
The standard Rally Pass costs between USD 102 – USD 157 for adults and USD 89 – USD 133 mex for children.
The Rally Pass All Inclusive costs between USD 133 – USD 177 for adults and USD 124 – USD 184
